Because when you run a bio-based fuel, i.e. biodiesel, so should always preheat the fuel before it goes into the engine. Biofuels have a tendency to gel up when they get cold and sit for a while. If the Mythbusters were smart and did just a little research they would have found that just about anyone who runs biodiesel pre-heats the fuel first. If they would have done that they would have EASILY gotten 33mpg like the straight diesel. I would even bet it would have gotten better than 33mpg.

the beatnick is such a fucking faggot

What goes around comes around: Rudolf Diesel’s original engines ran on peanut oil.
There are cooperatives around here that collect oil from restaurants, filter it, and dole it out to their members. This is very popular on a lot of the grey Japanese imports, like Delicas and Landcruisers.

My brother has been running his car on vegetable oil for the past few months.
Our kitchen looks like some mad scientist’s laboratory with all the jars full of strange liquids about.

You don’t need to buy any veggie oil. Just pick up used oil from restaurants. In fact, some places will even PAY YOU to take the veggie oil away.
And #2; biodiesel burns MUCH cleaner than reg. diesel; it emits about 50% LESS carbon! Also, biodiesel is completely NON TOXIC to the environment because it is just oil from plants. And another point is that we can us a WASTE product to move our vehicles. It really is recycling at its best!
The list of PROs goes on, but i am out of space lol

u mean any car under 1990’s…i have a 1987 mercedes 300D and i run only used deep fryer oil and i just use a paint filter to put it into my tank. and as for u ppl who say u need to warm it up…mercedes comes stock with a heater to heal the fuel.

if you run it through one standard filter, a compact filter, and have it hooked up through the heat exchange too heat or cool the veggie oil it is not bad for your car. and you must refine it before puting it in your fuel tank, and make sure your driving a diesel thats like before 1985 cause alll the newer ones are too advance to convert.
13. MsHyde1 | December 19th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
Thanks, skwurlking82. So first your filter the oil like they did in the video and then how do these filters work under the hood? It does sound like something you’ll need a bit of engeneering knowledge for, right?
And like Bluefoxkung mentioned, does it harm the engine or is it okay when you use a couple of filters?

If you’re gonna use veggie grease, go a step further and use the veggie oil (not the recycled stuff) as motor oil.

These guys always do the bare minimum with there experiments. They would’ve gotten better mileage if they had a heated flowpath. If you put just veggie oil in your tank you’ll scrap your engine because unheated veggie grease congeals. That’s why I stop taking these guys seriously. But yeah, Veggie grease is a very easy way to go. I’m gonna try it myself.

1 its free from resturantes.
2) its cleaner to burn and leaves less of a carbon foot print, i have my own 1977 veggie oil car. the only thing they left out is filters under the hood. you refine the fuel then put filters under the hood to make it the best it can be, i run three filters before it is combusted.

1) If you buy feggie oil, is it cheaper than disel?
2) What about the emission? Is it more environmental-friendly than gas?
18. 3ddonovan | December 31st, 2009 at 1:30 pm
If you think this is different - go to my video. I actually dump pure clean vegetable oil in my motor and run it.
19. yomasux | January 1st, 2010 at 4:58 pm
this works i have tried this on 5 different Mercedes diesels i don’t ever buy gas
20. kdraper2007 | January 3rd, 2010 at 2:25 pm
no, I don’t do it. I drive a semi & was looking into it to save money on fuel. my father was looking into it for his pickup & he has access to hundreds of gallons of used vegitable oil. we almost invested in a veggie oil to biodiesel home refinery.
21. honussa | January 4th, 2010 at 4:32 pm
All the oil? Don’t make me laugh!
22. jonnosaurus | January 7th, 2010 at 11:55 pm
i see. thanks alot man! do you do it?
do you ask restaurants for veggie oil?
23. kdraper2007 | January 9th, 2010 at 7:20 am
yes, if you can get it filtered enough. otherwise you need to convert your motor to run veggie oil. or you could run 50/50 veggie oil/diesel fuel without conversion. which if your doing it to save money would work fine. you just have to be careful in cold weather, as veggie oil gels really easily.
24. kdraper2007 | January 11th, 2010 at 1:23 pm
throwing away used oil? the oil used in fryers is sold & used in many products like cosmetics.
