Thats funny…I thought I made up this meal while I was in collage living with a room mate and poor. The difference is after all was cooked i made a huge omlet with the meal….Very tasty and doesn’t cost much. I don’t think you can get a sack of potatoes for a dollar anymore.

Cool…but when we’re in the Upcoming Depression I still won’t like onions….I want the same poor man’s dish but without the onions please….should save some money…yes?

having never lived thru the depression and raised in relative comfort, i have always feltthe need to live “bare bones” so to speak.. these are the types of meals i make for my family.. as the price of my shopping trolly has doubled, but my husbands pay has remained the same, i have ((unintentionally)) began depression cooking in my own home..
so thank u Clara for showing me lots of new ideas for cooking for my family

I learned how to make a similar meal from my grandmother using bacon grease, and sausage cooked in a cast iron skillet. Great comfort food!

Love Clara!! I’m a poor lowly grad student and she gave me some cheap new recipes that look delicious. The historical context in today’s setting really made the video magical!

That’s not irony–that’s coincidence.

This is nothing like the Great Depression. Most people aren’t dropping out of school because they can’t afford socks. You’ll know it’s that bad when you start saving your twist ties in a can above the fridge, in case you could reuse them.

it’s too bad this generation is so immoral, indifferent, and ungrateful to what the previous generations did for us.
i wonder what clara thinks of this generation…lol

What a treasure. I hope Clara lives forever. I wonder if our grandchildren will miss the “civility” of the YouTube generation… I certainly hope we’ll all come back around again!

The woman with the shopping bag must have had a lot of kids because the world is now filled with her type. We call them a-holes.
